A Brief History

Mercedes-Benz was patented in 1886 by Karl Benz, who created the first petrol-powered car. The company was initially financed by Bertha Benz, and Gottlieb Daimler finalized the patent in 1886. Wilhelm Maybach’s conversion attributed to the petrol engine later that year. In 1909 the well recognized star logo was adapted. The three pointed star would represent the use of Daimler engines on land, air and sea.

They began producing the 770 model in the 1930s and Adolf Hitler was known to drive one of them while he was in power, except his came with bulletproof windshields. This was a very admired car in its time and a big part of Mercedes-Benz history, luckily there is still a model available to see at the war museum in Ottawa, Ontario.

Mercedes-AMG became a majority-owned part of the company in 1999 and was then integrated into Daimler-Chrysler. This was a very luxurious brand and it has been operating under the Mercedes-Benz division until 2013, where it now operates under the Mercedes-Maybach name.
