Mazda is a very recognizable brand in the automotive Industry and they have been producing cars since the 1920s. The company started out manufacturing three-wheel trucks, and has been producing a variety of automotive models ever since. The brand shares its name in reference to the God of Light, hoping that it will help to brighten the image around their product.

Mazda has produced a variety of cars over the years, and they have also been involved in Motorsports. It is a very popular Japanese brand and a very successful one as well. By 2015, the company has already been producing more than 1.5 million vehicles a year.

A Brief History

The company was originally known as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd and was founded in January of 1920 in Hiroshima. The Company unfortunately fell into bankruptcy a few years later, and it had to be saved by the Hiroshima Saving Bank along with a few other businesses.

They moved away from manufacturing only machine tools in 1931, to manufacturing vehicles. This started with the Mazdago, this was a three wheeled open truck, which was considered the first ever auto rickshaw. The company still provided weapons for the Japanese military throughout the second world war, and officially adopted the name Mazda in 1984. From there, every automobile they've produced has used the name Mazda.

In 1968, the company was formally introduced in Canada, and in 1970 they've officially entered the United States market. They have produced the rotary pickup specifically for North American buses and had a reputation for being the only automotive brand to have a rotary powered bus.

Mazda has had great success with various models, including the CX-5 and the all-new CX-9. The CX-9 is available in all-wheel drive and has seating available for seven people. It offers a selection between manual and automatic transmission. The Mazda 3 offers an impressive 6.2L/100 km on the highway, and 8.5L/100km in the city, along with SkyActiv technology. The GX and GS versions offer a 2.0 L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine, with the option of a manual or automatic transmission.

Mazda is known for their affordability and reliability, and have numerous popular models available. Mazda is celebrating their 50th year in Canada, offering a selection of models that are comfortable, stylish and affordable. Mazda remains one of the admired brands when it comes to mid-size, affordable cars and continues to be a leading brand around the world.
