Jeep was founded in 1941 and is headquartered in Ohio. It is widely believed that the word Jeep was derived from ‘GP’ which referred to ‘Government Purpose’ vehicles. The original trademark for the brand was filed in 1943 by Willys-Overland. The model MB Jeeps were the final ones manufactured by Willys-Overland, while the ones manufactured by Ford were named GPW. They were used by the U.S. military and an average of 145 vehicles were supplied to every infantry regiment. They were used for many purposes, including field ambulances, tractors and cable laying.
Today, the Jeep brand is known to have a very unique, functional design. So much so that the Museum of Modern Art displays it as part of its collection. Chrysler Canada currently sells four brands, Dodge, RAM, Jeep, and Chrysler. FCA Canada currently has 440 dealers and three manufacturing plants throughout Ontario.
Some of the popular Jeep models today include the Wrangler, which is one of the few vehicles today that has solid front and rear axles with four-wheel drive.
