A Brief History

The company was originally founded in 1922 by two motorcycle enthusiasts and was known as the Swallow Sidecar Company. The company name was officially changed to Jaguar in 1945, and it merged with the British Motor Corporation. Throughout the years, the brand made a great name for itself by manufacturing the range of very successful models, including sports cars like the XK120, the XK140, as well as the E-Type. These cars were all built with the aim of offering value for money, while also offering the sports performance which people needed.

In 1989, Ford offered to buy the company and in 1999, the company became a part of the new Premier Automotive Group, which is owned by Ford. They joined the group along with names such as a Volvo, Aston Martin, and Land Rover, all under Ford’s ownership. Subsequently, the company expanded its range of cars and launched the new X-Type and the S-Type between 1999 and 2001.

Ford bought Land Rover in 2000, and in many countries, this has led to similar sales and distribution levels among the Jaguar and Land Rover brands.

In 2008 Ford announced that it will sell Land Rover as well as Jaguar to Tata Motors. The sale was completed during the second quarter of 2008 and the deal also included three other brands: Rover, Daimler, and Lanchester. The value of the deal was estimated at 1.7 billion.

Popular Vehicle Models

Among the most popular models are the F-Type and the X-Type. The X-Type is seen as an entry-level luxury vehicle, while the F-Type is a two-seater, two-door sports car. The company currently manufactures the F-Type, XE, XF and XJ range of models.

The XJ R-Sport offers a 3.0 L, 340 hp Supercharged V6 Engine, with Instinctive All Wheel Drive, full LED headlights with Adaptive Lighting, and Intelligent High Beam Assist. It also has a power panoramic glass roof with power blinds, making this one of the most stylish Jaguars yet.
