They are a German based car company and they produce a variety of automobiles and motorcycles that are well-known for their performance. The company has its headquarters in Bavaria and they produce their vehicles in companies such as Germany, South Africa and the United States.

BMW falls among the world's largest producers of motor vehicles and has produced almost 3 million vehicles to date. The company’s automobiles are marketed under the brands BMW, as well as Rolls-Royce and Mini. They also have their motorcycle division which is marketed under the brand BMW Motorrad, with an impressive track record in Formula One.

A Brief History

BMW was founded in 1916 and is a Germany based company, specialising in automobiles and motorcycles. The company serves clients worldwide and its origins can be tracked all the way back to an aircraft engine manufacturer.

In 1917, the company was renamed Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW), and the first product that they manufactured was an aircraft engine known for its good fuel economy and high-altitude formation. As a result, orders were streaming in from the German military.

BMW began production of the first automobiles in 1928 and they called their first model the BMW 3/15. In 1920, this also became the first car entirely designed by them, with a 4-cylinder engine based on the Austin 7.

The first 5 Series was introduced in 1972 and they were to replace the new class sedans. The iconic 3 Series range was also launched in 1975, and the M1 in 1978, which was developed in conjunction with Lamborghini.

By 1989 the company had introduced their 8 Series 1, and they have also produced a powerful V12 engine for McLaren F1 by 1993.

Popular BMW Models

BMW has a range of models available, including the 1 Series which is their entry level range of BMWs. They also have the 4 Series, which includes a two-door coupe and a five-door fastback. The BMW 5 Series is produced in a wagon and a sedan-type style, awhile the 7 Series can be found in a 4-door Sedan with a long wheelbase. The company has also launched a range of i-models which is their electric vehicles.
